Installing the art work

Spent the afternoon on Friday installing the art work. Nice to finally get it up on the walls and see what it looks like in the space.

After a change in tactics in installation, Keith and I had to come up with elaborate ways to keep the work up while it dried to the walls. Trays, wood offcuts, trolleys and weights seem to hold the key.

Keith was going back the next day to remove all the supports... so fingers crossed it has all stayed in place... I haven't heard other wise.

Celebration event on Wednesday, do come along and see the finished art work.

Well done to all the intergenerational volunteers at Victoria Park Bridgwater, you have done a fantastic job and really made the cafe a more attractive and welcoming place for local people. You should all be really proud of yourselves! And a massive thanks to lead artist Julie Roberts for working exceptionally hard and surpassing SAW's expectations. The Project's Aims

Through the medium of visual arts we will deliver intergenerational workshops with users of the Victoria Park Community Centre to develop ideas, then create and install permanent art installations for the Café. These will add colour and character to the space, encourage a sense of ownership in the local community and help cut down the current level of sound reverberation. We will also develop a series of creative skills sharing workshops, to encourage people to share a wide range of creative making skills. Supported by a professional artist, it is hoped these will develop into ongoing workshop activities at the centre once the initial workshop programme is completed. It is hoped the project may be a way to start new activities and encourage greater use of the public spaces.

The Company of Voices

SAW has gained funding to develop this project through a new Somerset-wide intergenerational programme called ‘The Company of Voices’ .

The Company of Voices is a cross-sector partnership which will promote cohesion in communities so that older and younger people can improve the extent that they value and respect one another, feel safe and secure in their community, are able to speak about their issues and views, have opportunities to come together to make a difference in their community, enjoy healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
